Ideas to Keep Book Club Members Engaged

With experience in human resources, Chandra Krohl formerly served as the director of talent and culture at Clarabridge Incorporated. In her leisure time, Chandra (Chandi) Krohl enjoys reading and participating in two book clubs.

To keep members engaged, some book clubs may feature activities that stimulate reading, such as games. Book clubs also can choose a theme or genre for each month, which is an easy way to expose readers to new types of literature.

Another idea is to propose an “around-the-world” reading club in which each book is set in a different country or environment. Additionally, the club could choose a different book award list each month or choose books set or written in a particular decade.

Creating a book and wine club is a way to add another layer of engagement. Following this example, book clubs can be paired with other hobbies and interests such as coffee, tea, cookies, or crafts.
